Chuck E Cheese's!

On Sunday night we went to our first birthday party at Chuck E Cheese with the kids. We went years ago for my nephew Stevie's 5th birthday party, but we didn't have kids then and I don't really remember it.

I seriously had all these preconceived ideas about how awful it was going to be, but I was pleasantly surprised! It was a ton of fun!

Once Owen got over the whole "what are we doing here and why is it so noisy" phase...he headed out with Michael to go play games. He LOVE this train set...unfortunately it ended up breaking!

I took Jack around to play on some of the little kid toys.

Papa & Grandma Martin had some nice quality time with Ella!

After playing for a while it was time to eat pizza and have cupcakes.

Happy 3rd Birthday Samantha!

Happy 7th Birthday Camryn!

Side note: This last year we've had some issues with Owen being picked on at the playground and in settings like this. We've contemplated putting him in Taekwondo to teach him self confidence and discipline...we are still considering it. Owen is just so small for his age and he's a little shy and doesn't like other people to touch him. His whole body language shows other kids he's an easy target...well Sunday was a different story!

Owen was standing in front of this camera that would put you on the TV screen with Chuck E and this kid came over and just shoved him because he wanted to be in front of the camera. Owen ended up falling over on the ground, getting right back up and walking over to the kid and punching him in the face. Now I'm not one for my kid bullying other kids, but defense is another thing and this was self defense. I was so stinking proud of him!!! This really shows that he is getting more self confidence. The kid ended up grabbing his face and running off. He did come back again later and Owen stood his ground and there was no more violence thank goodness!

  1. Traditionally, karate dojos wouldn't start training kids until they were 5 years, 5 months, and 5 days old. Why all the 5s? Who knows. The point being, though, that it might be hard to find a martial arts school that will take kids under 5. Until then you might just have to work with him yourself on building his self confidence. Or buy him a cool leather jacket with spikes on it so he looks tough.
