Where do I start? Back when Michael first got the call from AIL about the job offer we were so excited. We knew it was going to be something VERY different from painting, but Michael was up for the challenge. Working a commission job is a little scary too, but it was something we were willing to try. Michael went in knowing that it would be really rough the first 4 months, but after that things were going to slow down and he would even have the option of going down to 4 days a week.
So after weeks of training, one road trip and 2 weeks in the field by himself Michael started to see the job for what it really was...loss of family time...a lot of family time. In the past few days Owen had become very verbal about not wanting Daddy to go to work and saying things like, "Daddy miss you". He's also gotten to the point where he wouldn't let Daddy hug him because he knew that meant Daddy was leaving. Yesterday he refused to even wave goodbye to Daddy. Don't get me wrong we know that no job is going to be perfect and some family time it going to be sacrificed, but the way it was Michael was seeing the boys for a half an hour in the morning and that was it.
About a year ago I read the book Bringing Up Boys by Dr. Dobson and I loved it. It really shows you how you can have an impact on your boys and how Daddy plays such a big role in a boys life. After talking and going over the pros and cons and praying about it...Michael and I decided the best thing for our family at this time would be for him to step down from that job. We both feel our boys are more important than any amount of money.
So Michael is back looking for a new job. We know that God has a plan for our lives and we don't feel bad about taking a chance and trying something new. It was an experience that Michael learned a lot from and he will take that with him. I am thrilled to have him home during this time since Ella will be here shortly, but I'm also praying that the right job for him and our family comes along soon.
What a hard decision to make. Praying for God's direction for your family.
