Homemade Lego Bag!

A few weeks ago I took the kids over to my friend Kim's house where she showed me this awesome Lego Bag she had make from a tutorial she saw on Pinterest. I knew I had to give it a try!

When I took the kids to Joann Fabrics Jack picked out Spiderman fabric for the bag.

The first thing I needed to do was cut two circles one with the main outer fabric and one with the lining.

Then I needed to make two button holes for the ribbon to go through. Well I could not find the button hole foot thingy for my sewing machine. So I called Kim and she gave me was tips on what she did since she didn't have that part for her machine either. I ended up cutting a slit for the ribbon to go through and then did a zigzag stitch on either side. The picture above is actually the better of the two wholes....it's not pretty people! But hey all it needs to do is function right!

After the button holes I stitched the circles together (except for 3 inches) with the right sides facing and then pulled the fabric through the 3 inch hole so the right sides would be out now. Then I stitched two inches in from the outer stitch....this makes the pocket for the ribbon to go through.

Next was feeding the ribbon through the pocket.

Final step....lay on the floor, put Legos on and play. Thanks to Ga-Ga we have a few more Legos now than pictured!!

When you're done grab the ribbons and pull! Legos are all cleaned up and ready go.

Really these could be made for anything. I'm already thinking it would be nice holding game pieces or even other toys like Barbie clothes or something.

I know I say this about all my kids, but seriously....could he get any cuter!!!

Tying Up Loose Ends!

We finished most of the major makeover work all at once, but there were a few things here and there that took a bit more time to get done.

I know I've mentioned before that Michael's office was actually connected to our master bedroom by a door. The above picture is that door. Since the office is now Owen's room that was something that we needed to address. The door does have a lock on it from our room, but I wanted something a little more visual to help Owen remember that door isn't to be used.

Thanks to my mom this is what we came up with. I used a top sheet from Owen's sheet set and sewed it so a tension rod could go through it and mount it to the wall. It's a nice cover up since we didn't necessarily want to sheet rock the door over.

The last time I showed the kids bathroom the molding wasn't up. Here is a view of it...Michael just got normal wood and torched it so the grain would stand out and then stained it with a clear stain. It turned out so nice!

And here is the multifunctional room! I moved my computer desk over by the laundry closet.

My computer desk used to be right under the mirror. Now there are these little nightstands that hold computer & craft stuff.

Here is the view of Michael's new office and my craft desk. All of this in one room with a dining room table in the middle of it. You'd think it would overwhelming, but it all fits together nicely!

Zeke's Name Sign!

Over the weekend I finally got around to buying a cutting mat for my Cricut. I don't think I've ever mentioned my Cricut before. I've used my SIL's before, but I ended up finding my very own at the MOPS Rummage Sale for...$50!!! 

I found four coordinating pieces of paper and cut one letter from each piece.

Then cut the letters out again this time on cereal boxes.

After adhering the paper letters to the cereal box letters they were much more sturdy. I wanted to do a Mod Podge finish, but the paper just bubbled up so I ended up laminating them instead.

Throw in some twine and a stick that I found on a nature walk with the kids and it's a finished name sign!

I wanted something basic and organic and it turned out just like a envisioned!

First Trip To The ER!

On Sunday Jack finally broke his record of never going to the ER! We were trying to herd the kids into the van so we could actually make it to church and then there was screaming! Jack decided to go out the front instead of through the garage...as he was opening the gate he fell and hit the concrete with this head. I'm thinking there was a rock that was involved too. I was upstairs getting some last minute things and when I came down Michael was holding a towel to Jack's head. I asked, "How bad?"...when he showed me I threw up my hands and said, "There's goes church!" I'm so compassionate aren't I!

Owen ran to his medical kit that Aunt Michelle gave him and got Jack a Phineas and Ferb bandaid. Then Michael got Jack in the van and headed to Mary Bridge.

When we first told Jack that he was going to have to go to the ER he was yelling that he wasn't going to go. This was a whole new experience for him and he was freaked out. He was scared that he was going to have a shot. I told him about Ella's most recent experience and that they didn't give her a shot so I was sure they wouldn't give him one since his was a smaller wound.

After the nurse came in and put the numbing cream on Jack's wound he ended up getting bumped due to a more serious case coming in. He ended up having the cream on for about an hour. When it was time to stitch him up they decided to give him a shot of local as well. Michael said he had no idea they gave it to him though because he was so numb!

All stitched up and ready to go!

It's crazy how many times our kids have ended up in the ER and it makes Michael and I wonder how both of us made it through our childhood without stitches!

Our Little Cowboy!

Jack is already getting Zeke used to the idea of wearing a cowboy hat!

Major Makeover!

So it started with the kids bathroom, but really I had already been thinking about moving the kids rooms around for a couple weeks. For starters Owen needs less sleep so when we put him and Jack to bed he keeps Jack up. It's annoying and I feel really sorry for Jack. Owen also needs his own space. He's constantly trying to have "alone time" by playing in the sandbox, but what ends up happening...his brother and sister follow him everywhere. I thought it would be nice for him to have his own space.

Here is what the boys room looked like before.

In all honesty there room was much more messy that these pictures show, but these's were taken when we first set their room up with their new furniture.

And now the big room is Jack and Zeke's! Jack gets to sleep on the top bunk...he wasn't too happy about that actually and Zeke is sleeping in his crib now. I also thought this would be a good sleeping arrangement because Jack can sleep through almost anything so if Zeke cries at night and I need to come in and get him he'll be fine. Another reason is I wanted to foster a relationship between Jack and Zeke. Owen and Jack already have that closeness, but Zeke is 4 years younger than Jack, but I really want them to have a good bond.

This is what Ella's room looks like now. The only things that changed here was we moved her brown chair back into her room (I had moved it into Michael's office where Zeke was sleeping in his pack and play...picture below) and I moved the changing table from her room to Jack and Zeke's.

It's Owen's big boy room! He's hiding under the covers in this picture. He has a cold and wasn't feeling very good. When I first mentioned that he was going to get to have his very own room he was quite upset. I've mentioned before that he doesn't do well with change. Once I showed him where his bed would be going and that he would have a nightstand he felt better. We also made a trip to Target to get the lamp and alarm clock that are on his nightstand so that helped too!

My brother bought me this papisan chair at a garage sale and I thought it would be perfect for Owen to either jump from his bed to it or curl up in and look at books. By the end of the night Owen was loving his own space and we even heard him yell at his brother and sister to, "Get out of MY room!" already....it's started!

There are still things to move around like their name signs...in fact I need to make Zeke's. I also want to put up some more decorations in Owen's room and get him his own hamper.

Since Owen's room is now taking up what was once Michael's office we had to make some changes there too. First was removing the top of his computer desk...thanks to my friend Jenn for giving me this idea. I kept trying to figure out where that huge corner unit would go, but there just wasn't a place for it since it would end up covering up a window!

After 1 coat of primer, 2 coats of white paint, a piece of plexy glass for the top and a new to us office chair and now Michael's office has a new home in the dining room. I know that the saying is the kitchen is the heart of the home, but in our house it's the dining room for sure. It serves so many purposes - place to eat, Michael's office, laundry room and my craft area is on the right side of the fireplace. I still have a bit of organization to do in this room and then I'll take a picture of the whole room. After all those changes it feels like a new house and it's so much more user friendly for our life at this moment!

Love & Dorky Pictures!

Owen loves his baby brother and he's very concerned about Zeke loving him. He's always saying things like, "Mama Zeke's checking me out" or "Zeke said I love you" .

The awesome thing is the feeling is absolutely mutual! Zeke LOVES Owen. In fact Owen gets the title of getting the first actual non-gassy smile from Zeke. He has this way with him!

During this little photo session Zeke even chuckled for the first time while being awake.

Another Makeover!

So this is the room that started the whole mini makeover of our house. It had been brewing in my head for a while, but this really was the catalyst for it all.

This is the kids bathroom...well this is the way it was when we first moved into the house. We changed everything in this room...paint, flooring, vanity, lighting, mirrors, added shower doors and put in a new white baseboard heater in.

I wanted to decorate with sunflowers so my MIL painted these on the wall for me. Enter overflowing toilet that ruined the floors and started the whole makeover process.

Michael went a got those linoleum squares that look like tiles and put them in. Surprisingly they are really nice. He even bought the grout stuff that goes in between the tiles and it makes it look like really tile. Of course it doesn't feel like real tile, but that's okay. After that we decided that the paint wasn't right for the room anymore so he started painting it the dark brown on the window wall.

Here is the room now...minus new baseboards. I love the dark brown color and the floor tiles. It looks so sophisticated. Not necessarily a kids looking bathroom, but I've never been one to have a Disney themed bathroom.

I love how the brown really makes all the while in the room pop and I was still able to decorate with all my sunflower stuff!

One room down...well once the baseboards are in...a few more rooms to go. Stay tuned!
