4th Tooth

Keeping with his tradition Owen's 4th tooth came through on Grandma Martin's birthday, August 30th. It's his other lateral incisor so he still doesn't have his two top front teeth. Once this new tooth comes in enough he's going to look like a hippo or Goofy. At least he doesn't have his two cuspid teeth or he'd look like a vampire.

Burrito Baby

Once Owen is finished with his bath I take him out of the sink and immediately wrap him up in one of his hooded towels. Lately he's been holding really still when I do this which is very unusual for a baby. It's my favorite time to scoop him up and snuggle and kiss him!!

Standing Up

If Owen could have his way he'd much rather skip crawling all together and go straight to walking. Even though he's strong enough to play on his tummy he still despises it. Yesterday he was being so grumpy except when I was standing him up. So I decided that if he wants to stand up he should try doing it on his own. The end of our bed was the perfect place since it has the metal decor things he can hold on to. Once I put him there he was just happy as can be.

Watermelon

I try to introduce new foods to Owen as often as I can. One of the most recent things he tried was watermelon. He wasn't too keen on it though as you can see. I think there was just too much water involved.

The rest of the story!

Here's the conclusion to the previous video where he actually gets to enjoy his favorite thing...the red Coca Cola thermos.

On the move

Finally!!! I have been trying to upload this video of Owen crawling for 3 days!!! Enjoy!

You Tube

There are certain things I never thought I would do, own a cell phone, participate in text messaging and have my own account with You Tube....never say never!!!

Birthing Class Reunion

Yesterday afternoon Michael, Owen and I went into Seattle for a little get together with our birthing class. Last November Michael and I started attending classes on natural childbirth - The Bradley Method to be exact. Of course Owen had different plans and we had a completely opposite birth by having a C-Section, but that's okay he's here and that's what matters! Back to yesterday, it was so nice to see everyone (almost one couple was missing). It was great to meet the babies and hear how everyone was doing being first time parents.

Unstopable

Owen has now started to lunge for things. His favorite things to go for are the remote controls, cell phones and a red Coca Cola thermos. He is very strong too and sometimes he wants something so bad it takes all my strength to hold him back. He has absolutely no fear either. He'd dive bomb off the couch if we let him.

I'll have a side of beef with that...

So I finally gave in and took some of my mom's advise, it's not a very common thing since I like to do things my own way and make my own mistakes. I'm pretty bull headed when it comes to things like that. Anyway, mom was right of course! She has been telling me for a few weeks now that I should go get some beef jerky for Owen to gnaw on because that's what she used to let me gnaw on when I was a baby. In the back of my mind I'm secretly wondering why I'm still alive because surely giving a baby beef jerky would cause said baby to choke. I caved in and watched Owen like a hawk when giving him teriyaki flavored beef jerky. Surprise, surprise...he loved it! I think he chewed on the same piece for about 20 minutes. Moral of the story....listen to your mother!

Another first!!!

On Thursday my friend Nikki came down to visit with Owen and I. While she was here we went to Azteca for lunch and while we were eating Owen decided to get a little grumpy. He figured that since we were getting to eat that he should get to as well. We've tried putting him in the high chairs at restaurants before and he's just been too small, but this time he fit!! He's growing up too fast!!!

Walking In Place

Owen has been enjoying his Johnny Jump Up so much more now that he's a little bigger. The Johnny Jump Up is in-between our kitchen and living room and just inside the living room is a garbage can. Owen has been trying and trying to get a hold of that garage can. He just moves those little legs back and forth, back and forth, walking in place and just when he thinks he might actually reach it, he gets pulled back. Life's so unfair!!! :(

Hippo Chair

On Tuesday night we were at Aunt Becky's for family night and Owen got to sit in his cousin Camryn's hippo chair. He only sat still for a couple pictures and then decided that the floor looked much more interesting.

Finally!

I was finally able to get a picture of the illusive third tooth! Since it's not one of the main front teeth he looks like a hillbilly, but a cute hillbilly!

Owen or Goose?

Owen has been called all sorts of nicknames since before he was born. I listed them out in a previous post, but his latest nickname from me has been Goose and from his Dad it's been Monkey. I normally call him Goose when he's being ornery and trying to get away from me when I'm changing his diaper or clothes. I was calling him Goose so much that I thought he might actually start responding to that more than his real name so I eased off a bit. The last two days I've been saying Owen more and he's been responding to his name!!! At first I thought he was just turning to the sound of my voice, but I can be saying all kinds of things and the moment I say Owen he turns and looks at me like, what?

He found it!

This morning when I was giving Owen a bath he found his wee wee!

Prunes

Owen has now tried all the stage 1 baby foods and is ready to move onto the stage 2 foods. The only two foods he's not very fond of are peas and prunes. Last night I decided to slip in some prunes along with the squash I was feeding him. To my surprise, he actually didn't mind them at all. When he was done eating I gave him the spoon with a little bit of prunes on it to see how he would do with feeding himself. As you can see not much made it in his mouth.

Highchair

Owen is finally big enough to sit in his highchair with the tray on it. The highchair we picked out came with this discovery toy that snaps into the tray. You can learn shapes, numbers, the alphabet, animal sounds and music by hitting certain buttons. Owen is just fascinated by the animal sound button so all I ever hear is, Let's learn animal sounds together, over and over and over! :)

New Skills

Owen has developed so many new skills recently I wanted to make a list of them all...

- Furrowing his brow
- Banging his hands
- Scrunching up his nose
- Snorting
- Making noise without opening his mouth
- Making noise by breathing in and out through his nose
- Sticking his tongue out and blowing (especially fun when there is food in his mouth!)

Crawling

The past couple of days Owen has been able to hold himself in the crawling position if you help him get there. He's lifted himself up from the ground a couple of times, but most of the time he needs a little help. While I was updating the blog today I heard Michael yelling from downstairs to hurry and come down. I ran downstairs to find out that I missed him crawl! :( He had gotten himself up in the crawling position and moved both his legs and his arms forward once. HE CRAWLED!!! The picture above isn't from today because like I said I was updating the blog so the camera was hooked up to the computer upstairs. Owen is just getting to be a bigger boy so fast!

3rd tooth

Owen's third tooth popped through the gums today. The odd thing is it's not one of the two very front teeth on top, it's one of the small ones to the side. It's called the lateral incisor. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get a picture of it because he was being too wiggly. I don't think he was really feeling well because his gums were swollen around the new tooth. With his other two teeth the gums never swelled up so I gave him some baby Motrin to help with that. I sure hope the two front teeth come in soon or his going to look a little funny though.

Boeing Family Fun Fair

Today was such a fun day!!! GG & Peepaw, Grandma & Grandpa Grant, Jim & Norean, Uncle Ryan, Aunt Kim, Justin, Tyler, Michael, Owen and I all went to the Boeing Family Fun Fair down in Frederickson. There was so much to do and eat! We went down one of those inflatable slides more than once, climbed a rock wall, competed in a miniature boat race and tried out Velcro golf. We wanted Owen to have his face painted, but he kept turning his head so he got a turtle tattoo on his forearm instead. He also got a bunch of toys - a soft baseball and football and a cute fireman hat. We ate hot dogs, chips, apples, cotton candy, snow cones and popcorn. After all that we even got to tour my Dad's building and see all the different machines and parts that it takes to make an airplane wing. It was a great time!

Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde

Owen has really mastered the cheeser face! He does it almost every time you smile at him. Yesterday I was trying to get a good picture of him smiling all sweet and in the process I got a picture of his other side as well!!!

Standing

The last couple of days Michael has been challenging Owen to stand up on his own using the couch to balance himself. I didn't think he would like it at first, but he really has a pretty good time!

On the News!

My friend Christa recorded the news story that Owen and I were involved in. She took pictures of her TV while the story was playing so I could scrapbook the experience. Thanks Christa!!! :)

Thankful

This morning Owen had the most disgusting diaper on record! Mainly because most of it wasn't in his diaper. It made me think of a list of things I'm thankful for right at this moment...

- Disposable Diapers

- Totally Toddler Stain Remover

- Automatic Washing Machines

- Anti-Bacterial Soap & Wipes

- Good Sense Of Humor

Fingers

When Owen was a newborn he was really interested in sucking on his fingers, but that fascination died off after a while. The last couple of days though he's really taken a liking to them again, especially the two fingers in his mouth in the picture above. Tonight he was pretty fascinated by his thumb though so we'll just have to wait and see if it sticks or if it's just a passing phase.

Flexible

It just amazes me how flexible babies are!

Cutie Pie!

This is my new favorite picture of Owen! He is such a cutie!!!

Zach

On Monday Owen got to meet a friend of the family's baby Zach. Andrea is a good friend of ours and she met her husband in Indonesia while she was teaching there. They were married last year and immediately got pregnant with Zach. He was born in Indonesia about 4 months ago, but when he was 2 months old they move to America. Andrea, Zach and her sister and nephew came to Seattle for a few days to see the sights. It was so neat to see everyone and meet Zach. He's such a cute boy! It was so neat to see them side by side. As my mom said Zach is as dark as Owen is light and this picture sure shows that.

Goatee

On Monday I was giving Owen his bath when he reached down into the water and picked up his washcloth that was covered with bubbles and proceeded to chew on it. When he dropped the washcloth he was left with a bubble goatee!

Apricots

Owen loves apricots so I have been sharing mine with him. All he does is suck on it so I was really worried. Well last week he about took a chunk out of thing so that put a stop to that. On Sunday afternoon we stopped at Babies R US and bought Owen this solid food holder with a mesh bag. I put chunks of apricots in it and he can gnaw on it and suck the juice out and I don't have to worry about him choking. It's the coolest thing. I'm going to buy bananas at the store next time and see how he likes eating those.

Uncle Ryan & Aunt Kim

Last Friday Uncle Ryan and Aunt Kim stopped by to give Owen another gift. I actually think Aunt Kim is going to pass up Grandma Grant when it comes to giving Owen gifts soon. She works at a shoe store and we all know how girls are when it comes to shoes!!! They are just the cutest shoes too. They are wrap around Velcro so it's so easy to get his feet in them. Owen has always had this thing with curling his toes so it really makes putting shoes on him difficult. Not with these shoes, they rock!!! To top it off the shoes came with a cute Nike hat too! Loved them both. Thanks you guys!

Grass

Last week sometime I took Owen outside to sit in the front yard and blow bubbles. Of course I did all the bubble blowing and he just watched. He sat there for the longest time just looking at everything, particularly our cat Punkin. Punkin was of course doing everything to get me to pet him, but strategically staying out of Owen's grasp. Owen did fall backwards and landed in the grass. Having never touched grass before he had a funny look on his face. If you've seen our grass it's not very nice and I'm sure didn't feel very good to his sweet soft skin. After sitting him back up he decided that his baseball hat makes a much better teething toy that it did a sun shade.

World Breastfeeding Week

At 10am this morning Owen and I participated in the Synchronized Breastfeeding Worldwide attempt for the Guinness Book of World Records for simultaneous breastfeeding in multiple sites. It was sponsored by the La Leche League and on top of going for a world record we were trying to raise awareness about breastfeeding within the first hour after a baby is born. Komo 4 News was there and Owen and I were interviewed. I've already heard from someone that I was on the 11am news so I hope they show it again during the evening news. I would have posted a picture of Owen and I from the event, but we were running late...literally! I was running while pushing Owen's stroller to get there on time and I made it with just one minute to spare. Since I was hurrying I left the camera in the car by mistake!!

Mommy's Pretties

It's started, Owen is now mobile enough to get into my pretties. He can't crawl yet, but he just rolls over again and again and then he can scoot on his tummy to get where he wants to go. Yesterday he moved right off his blanket in the family room and onto the hardwood floor. At first he was just happy with being on the cool floor, but then he noticed the sunflowers. This weekend Michael and I are going to install the safety latches on the cupboards and then we need to go get baby gates for the stairs. I can't believe he's mobile already, Mommy's not ready for this yet! :)

Little Rascal

Owen also got to go for a ride with Mommy and Peepaw on Peepaw's new Rascal scooter. We drove him around in the parking lot of their apartment. GG & Peepaw are going to watch Owen for me on August 9th while I go to lunch with a friend. If it's nice they are going to ride Owen down to the park that's only 2 blocks down the road. He's going to have so much fun!

Feel the vibration!

Yesterday afternoon Owen and I went to visit GG & Peepaw for a couple of hours. While we were there Owen got to sit in Peepaw's new recliner that has a vibrator inside. At first he didn't really pay attention to it, but then he started feeling the chair with his hands and you could just see the wheels in his head turning.
