It's A Dog Day Afternoon!!!

Yesterday Owen and I spent the afternoon with my friends Nikki & Christa. We went to Buca Di Beppo's to celebrate my birthday. After that we went back to Christa's house to play with her new puppy Riley. Owen wasn't too sure about him. The only animals that he's had close contact with so far have been cats. The cats aren't too thrilled with him so they don't initiate contact. Riley on the other hand was very excited about Owen and wanted to kiss him and climb on him. He was very cute!

A Real Crawl

Here he is really crawling!

What a mouthful!

Yesterday I was trying to get a picture of Owen's 6 teeth. He was just giggling up a storm and I was just snapping away not sure what kind of picture I was going to get. I got a really good one of him and then I got this one...I didn't know my son was part horse!!

Uh-Oh

On Friday September 21st Owen said Uh-Oh! On Thursday he was eating one of his teething biscuits and he dropped it a couple of times and I kept saying Uh-Oh. On Friday morning he was sitting in his highchair playing with a toy and he dropped it and I said Uh-Oh and then he mimicked me. It was so cute. He's tried to say it again, but usually only the Uh sound comes out.

5th & 6th

On Thursday September 20th Owen's two front teeth came through. That means he has 6 teeth now! He has really had a rough 2 weeks with teething and having a cold. He's finally feeling better and it's so nice to see him smiling and laugh again! I'm really going to miss his cute smile with no front teeth though, but I know that I'll see it again in 7 or so years.

Do the Puyallup!

Yesterday Michael, Owen and I went to the Puyallup Fair with our friends Micah and Kim. It was lots of fun and nice weather too. Actually we wouldn't have minded had it been a little more cloudy...I can't believe I really said that, but it's true! Our cheeks muscles were tired from squinting so much and that was with sunglasses on!! All in all our day was filled with...

- Eating (Elephant Ears, Scones, Strawberries on a Stick, Gyros and Fish & Chips) It's all about the food really!!
- Seeing the animals
- Looking at some of the vendors and hobby collections
- Watching Muttin' Bustin' (Kids 6 years and under riding Ewe's. First, second and third place all went to girls!!!)
- Going on a couple rides

Michael and I are in background of this picture. Micah and Kim were watching Owen for us so we could go on a ride.

This is how Owen napped two times while we were at the fair. He would start out chewing on his hat and before we knew it he was sleeping with it pulled down over his face.

Hair

I love this picture that Michael took, for some reason it really shows off Owen's hair and give the appearance that there is more of it than there really is. He actually looks like he has little boy hair that has been combed over. I can't wait until he has more hair and he can have faux hawk.

Blackberries

Owen and I went on a walk around our neighborhood about 2 weeks ago before we both got colds. While we were on our walk we found a small neighborhood park. This park borders some protected land that is filled with blackberry bushes. The first time we found it was just by accident. I happened to chose the most awful day and time of the week to go for a walk. It was Tuesday which is garage day! Not only were we walking pass a whole bunch of stinky garage cans, but the garage truck was pacing us! YUCKY!! So I was trying to walk faster and get ahead of this stinky truck when I noticed this little tiny park off the road a bit with a picnic table and some shade. When I got back there I saw the blackberries. Owen and I sat back there getting some relief from the sun and the stink until the truck had gone. While we were waiting I picked some berries and Owen tried them too and liked them. Then next day we walked back and I brought a container so I could bring some home. The picture above is Owen eating a blackberry when we got home.

Favorite Thing

Here are some pictures of Owen doing his most favorite thing right now - standing up on the love seat and looking out the window. He so smart too because he's figured out how to go from one side to the other. He doesn't just shimmy to the side he actually reaches back and turns himself around 90 degrees to go from the side of the love seat to the back of it.

So Precious

Owen has been learning to stand up and hold onto things. Recently we started putting one of the couch cushions on the floor so he could play with it. He's been holding onto it and actually walking around it. Another thing he's started doing is laying his head on your shoulder (or the couch cushion as seen above) when he's sleepy. I just love it when he does this!

Fun with Daddy!

These pictures were taken a couple of weeks ago when we were sitting down for dinner. Michael was just talking and being goofy with Owen and Owen was having the time of his life playing with Daddy.

Cold

On Thursday Owen joined the world of the common cold....along with Mommy! I was really crossing my fingers and hoping that he would be one of those breastfed babies that didn't get sick until 18 months old, but no such luck. It was just heartbreaking to get him up in the morning and see all those crusty boogers around the outside of his nose. :( On Saturday he was up for all of 6 hours and asleep the rest of the day. He's like his Mommy where he recovers while he sleeps. In addition to sleep we've been giving him Infant Tylenol Cold Plus Cough medicine and running the humidifier in his room at night and he's getting better now and so am I. 1 cold down 500 more to go! :)

Getting the hang of it!

The first time Owen had one of those teething biscuits he wasn't really sure what to do. As you can see he's pretty much figured out that the point is to make a mess. :) When it came time to clean him up he's wasn't smiling though. When those biscuits dry on your skin it's like trying to get cement off.

Chompers!

Here's a picture of Owen's funny teeth. The two front teeth are right under the skin so it won't be long and he'll have 6 teeth!! I can't believe it!

Laughing

Owen has always been such a somber baby. It took us forever to get him to laugh. The easiest way to make him laugh is by saying the word...BOO! He loves it! You don't even have to say it scary or surprising you can just whisper it and he's laughs. He's loves that word. We've found out recently that it doesn't necessarily have to be...BOO...you can say any word with the OO sound. Such as MOO, POO or WHOO and he loves it!

Just The Two Of Us

Michael and I have really been wanting to go see The Bourne Ultimatum and have some time for just the two of us. Our friends Micah and Kim are wanting to become parents soon so I called them up to see if they wanted some hands on practice. They were totally willing to help us out. It felt kind of funny at first leaving our friends to go to movie since in years past they have always been going with us. It was really nice to get out though. Owen was a good boy for them too! Kim said he fussed a couple of times, but it wasn't bad. When he did get a little fussing Kim said they took him for a walk around the neighborhood and that quieted him right down.

Remember When...

The first picture was taken when Owen was just 2 months old; the second picture was taken last night. It's hard to remember him being that small!

Update On Sitting Up

Owen has been sitting up for a while now, but only when we sit him up. On Thursday that all changed. He was on his tummy and he got up in the crawling position and then leaned over and sat himself up. Michael and I were both on the floor playing with him and we starting clapping and saying "YAY"! Owen wasn't quite sure what all the fuss was about though. Just one more step on the road to being fully mobile!

The Little Gym

Yesterday I took Owen to his first class at The Little Gym and it was so much fun. He did so well! He's never really been one to get overstimulated and freak out, but I wasn't 100% confident that it would good completely smooth, but it did! There were about 12 kids in all and with The Little Gym program the 4 - 10 month olds are known as Bugs. There were quite a few kids that were around Owen's age so that was nice to see. The youngest in our class was 5 months old and all she really wanted to do was lay on her tummy. There were 2 or 3 kids that were already crawling and a bunch that will be joining them very soon. During class we sing songs and use bells, do exercises to strengthen the babies core, stimulate them with color and rhythm, let them explore each other, the gym equipment and have fun with bubbles. It's a weekly class that lasts 45 minutes and I'm really looking forward to going every week with Owen and using what we learn during the week at home.

New foods

Yesterday Owen tried two new foods. He got to munch on biter biscuits and meat. I don't count the beef jerky earlier because he didn't actually eat it he just chewed it. He liked the outside of the biter biscuits, but once he started chewing and got pieces of it in his mouth he wasn't too sure. He's not into swallowing when it's not smooth and liquidy. As for the meat - he had apples and chicken dinner baby food and I'm not so sure he liked it. Granted he was stuck in his car seat when he was eating it so that might have tainted the experience. Last night we were at St Francis Hospital in Federal Way having Owen's car seats checked out to make sure we had them installed correctly. Come to find out we didn't! It's not all that uncommon they say 7 out of 10 car seats are installed incorrectly and for good reason...the instructions are in a foreign language I swear. I feel so much better now that we know he's strapped in good, but at the same time it makes me sick thinking that he wasn't for almost 8 months!! Life lesson...have the car seat inspected prior to giving birth!

Baby Days @ Wal-Mart

The Wal-Mart in Federal Way is having Baby Days this week and you can turn in a picture for a contest. This picture was taken yesterday so I'm going to turn it in tomorrow. The winner will be announced on the 8th so we'll have to wait and see if Owen wins. If the criteria is being the sweetest, cutest, most kissable baby he's already won in my book! :)

Owen's First Camping Trip

So this last weekend we went camping with some of our friends. It's been a year since Michael and I went camping. It's hard to believe that this time last year we didn't even know if we were having a boy or a girl yet. Owen did really well camping except for the sleeping part. The first night I only got about 3 hours of sleep. Sometime in the middle of the night I brought him into bed with Michael and I and then the paranoia set in that he was going to rollover and suffocate or I was going to rollover on him. By the second night when he slept with us I was feeling better and slept great. The third night he slept really good in his bed, but when he woke up to eat at 5:30 I just let him sleep in bed with us....not because he needed to, but because I actually like snuggling with him. Michael forewarned me that this wouldn't be a habit though so we're already back to the normal routine of him sleeping all night in his crib.

Owen got to do so many firsts this trip....

- Seeing a fire

- Playing on the playground

- Swimming in a real pool

- Walking through a corn maze

- Going on a hayride

We had a great time being away from the everyday normal stuff and it was really nice to catch up with some friends we hadn't spent time with in a while.

Taking in the view

Owen is finally strong enough to sit up in the shopping cart....and mommy has gotten over the yuck factor of having him sit in a shopping cart. You know I really didn't think of myself as a germ freak before having kids, but do you honestly know how many germs are on an average shopping cart. DISGUSTING!!! Thankfully most business are aware of the yuck factor and are nice enough to provide handy antibacterial wipes to clean off the germs or at least lead you to believe they are no longer there. Anyways this is a big deal for Owen and I because this means no more having to take his infant car seat out of the car and hoist it up into the cart and Owen gets a much better view this way.
