There are certain hazards that come with Michael's new job...like encountering dogs! Last Tuesday Michael had his first run in with a pit bull. He was bent down reading the water meter and then the next thing he hears is a bark and he looks up and the dog is within 3 - 6 ft and he had just enough time to stand up and turn his body. The dog was going for Michael's inner thigh, but ended up getting his outer thigh instead. He was lucky in that the dogs teeth actually bit down on the seam of his work pants so his teeth didn't break the skin it was just the pressure of the bite itself that did. Michael always carries a screwdriver with him and when the dog bit him he was holding onto the metal part of the screwdriver so he hit the dog on the head with the handle and he let go. If it had been the other way around the dog probably wouldn't be here anymore.
After Michael was bit the owner came and got the dog and went back in the house and never came back out. Michael and his co-worker went to the nearest clinic and he got checked out. He got a tetanus shot and a prescription for an antibiotic. They did try to go back and talk with the owner, but she wouldn't come out once she saw it was them. Her behavior seems pretty odd so they are thinking her dog has been responsible for something like this before. His work is trying to contact the appropriate animal control unit to respond to the situation, but they are having hard time since the animal control units in the area have closed down.
